I know around these parts we aren’t really into SUV’s. CUV’s even more so. However, how do we feel about this update to the Trax? Firstly, I’m impressed they did it. Even though it’s been on sale for a good bit in other markets, GM isn’t known for keeping their products updated. Second, I think it’s fairly comprehensive. New dashboard/cluster with new infotainment and design and new front end design that visually widens the car (which it desperately needed against it’s tall and stubby previous iteration). What do we think?

We were just talking about it earlier.

Like I mentioned earlier, I think they cribbed from the 2014 Chevrolet Niva new gen concept, which was or is supposedly slated to go into production this year. Update of their existing Niva hardware, which is a Lada Niva derivative (!). It’s a good look, and if they’re either trying to harmonize with or replace the Niva in the Russian market, it makes sense - they do sell the Trax in the Russian market a good bit, oddly enough.

I’ve never even heard of it. Looks good though. There’s probably a market for both. Is the Niva a more basic/smaller vehicle?

I apparently missed that. I’ll go read that now. Haha.

I just want another Trailblazer

It’s not a FWD-based platform, it’s an RWD based platform. Derived from the Lada Niva, which in itself is a Russkiized Fiat with 4WD added. So the ultimate ancestry of the mechanicals is much older, but arguably more capable offroad. The (Chevy) Niva might be slightly smaller, but I don’t think there’s a huge difference size-wise. The Trax would be more comfortable/softroad, the Niva more rugged/simple.

As old as those bones are, I bet that thing is bulletproof!

You and a million other folks I have in my area. Something that can tow but also isn’t bonkers big or expensive like the Tahoe. It’s a market they are missing.

Well, somewhat. Not entirely, but pretty good. BiTurbo228 has one, and I got to see it and ride in it when I was in the UK. A while back it stripped a front diff (metallurgy problem), but he got it fixed pretty easily.

Looks like a marked improvement on the old one.

The outside looks better but that interior is kind of a swing and a miss in my book. At least the “infotainment” screen isn’t just stuck haphazardly on top of the dashboard, I guess.

Seems well received. I might purchase one used in 10 years who knows.

Now that I could get behind. I don’t care much for the FWD-based platforms where the AWD puts just enough power to the rear wheels to let them slap a badge on the trunk. A RWD-based small SUV platform is a market without a lot of players in it.

Like I joked yesterday, import the Russki Chevy, slap Trax badges and VIN on it, and hoon until caught. Yelling “WORTH IT” on the way to prison. Or alternately, the non-fraudey version, bring it in through Alabama or another state that will let you register anything, and hoon until caught THAT WAY.

Thats my exact reasoning! Plus body on frame.

The amount of calls I get for used Envoys/trailblazers and the like is staggering. I have exactly one on the lot right now (ext with I6) and I could have sold it 4 times over.

That’s how I feel. Though, if they ever decide to incentivize it, I might consider an earlier purchase. The only thing I hope is that the new interior has slightly better materials. Not looking for luxury car here, but the competition is slightly better. (Mazda excluding, theirs is significantly better).

Compared to the current gen, the interior seems to be an upgrade. My only hope is that it comes with slightly better materials. Oh, and light up all the damn power window switches! How hard is that!?

I’m just hoping for slightly nicer materials on the inside and lit power window switches (all of them). The front end is a marked improvement because it doesn’t look as tall and stubby anymore.

ooh like that’s gonna be hard , like shooting fish in a barrel.
